Despite my financial constraints, I used my savings for my dream university.
My parents worked as construction laborers. And I used to work as a maid while I was studying. We were impoverished and lived in slums. I had to help Mom with her construction job at times. But deep down, I had no desire for this existence. I’ve always wanted to work in the corporate sector. So, I learned how to use a computer and saved the money I made from running a household. I found a job shortly after finishing 12th grade, and my life became more stable. However, when I asked for a promotion 5 years later. The lack of a formal degree became a barrier. At the same moment, I said to myself, “I’M GOING TO COMPLETE MY EDUCATION.”
So, I invested all of my savings into my dream university, The University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. No one ever thought I will give wings to my dreams. But today I am living them & trying to create a more beautiful future for my family. How far you can go is determined by your hard work, not by your background.
My entire life was spent in Mumbai’s slums. My parents worked as laborers on a construction site, and I used to work as a housekeeper during our school’s summer holiday. Mom and Dad gave us every bit of our happiness. They loved us immensely. But things weren’t easy due to various financial circumstances.
I used to work as a home helper to help with my household expenditures. But when I got a bit older, I developed a “KEEDA” (dedication) to technology. I enrolled in a computer class and paid the tuition with the money I earned. I got a job with the same coaching class immediately after finishing my coursework and intermediate. I spent some time there before moving on to another job. When I inquired about a promotion in my designation after switching employment many times in the previous six years. They denied my request. They said I lacked the necessary qualifications. At the same time, I decided that “I must complete my education.” “It’s time for me to finish my studies.” I began applying to colleges with all my savings from these years.
And, fortunately, I received admission to my dream university. I was now going to study in the United Kingdom, a place that many people dream of visiting.
I was happiest on the day I received my application form. My hard effort seemed to have paid off. In my entire family, I was the first to go outside the country. The most content were my parents. Their proud expression was apparent in their eyes. Today, after 6 months of living and studying on my own in the UK, I am creating a bright future for myself and my family.
I believe it is your hard work, not your background, that has led to your success.
