Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A Mother’s Journey Of Passion And Perseverance
My age was not a barrier in starting my own business.
I am the mother of two wonderful children who are the most important people in my life. But as a woman and an individual, I also have my own aspirations that I want to pursue and accomplish and I am quite acquainted with the hardships of women entrepreneurs, having started my own business when I was just 13 years old.
I began my first business, selling pure water and biscuits in my father’s church, with the intention of expanding my offering. My desire to continue exploring various business startups continued as I advanced to the University of Benin, where I made a transition to selling gently used clothing, which sold out rapidly.
Any business needs passion to succeed, and I was able to start another one because of my enthusiasm, energy, and propensity for learning new things. I learned how to sew while taking a break from my third ASUU strike, and as a result, my fashion label “Lemionis” was launched.
My Entrepreneurial Journey
my journey has been driven by perseverance, helping me thrive in the business world while raising two children.
After finishing my National Youth Service in Kebbi state, I collaborated with leading brands in the area to organize the “Zarah Adel Fashion Show,” which was a huge success. I stayed in Kebbi for three more months, catering to the bespoke fashion needs of bank workers.
One thing that I’ve acquired in my business path is to not let ideas go to waste or procrastinate by merely thinking about them, but rather to hunt for possibilities to start a business. And thus, after getting married in 2018, I established another business, Z and Z Bridal, which is a one-stop-shop for all bridal needs.
With the birth of my daughter in 2019, the Universe bestowed upon me two great creations: my daughter and my new business, Ewoma Organics, which has experienced exceptional growth in just 3 years.
And with all of my success stories, you must be thinking that I have learned many business strategies from an early age and know how to manage them smoothly. But the story is that as an entrepreneur and mother, I have to overcome obstacles in order to thrive in my business, such as obtaining funding and maintaining a work-life balance while raising two children.
Like every journey, I encountered numerous challenges, but my tenacity enabled me to overcome them. Despite the ups and downs, I learned how to choose my battles wisely and stick to the winning side.
Success is not always easy, but it is always worthwhile in the end. I anticipate even better accomplishments in the future.
